Will there be a DLC for Elden Ring? Yes Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

As a matter of fact, there is already a DLC for Elden Ring base game. This Elden Ring DLC has arrived to some extent in the form of the new free Colosseum update, a PvP focused mode that dropped on December 7th and will allow players to battle each other one-on-one or in groups, depending on what they pick.

Players have speculated for a long time that the Colosseums contain DLC or updates, but nobody could prove it because they weren’t accessible – although the way the buildings were prominently placed made it seem like a possibility.

Players can battle each other in the Colosseum DLC’s grand arenas. Possible additions to Elden Ring include discovering the mist between Divine Towers, Miquella Godwyn’s Egg, The Shattering/Night of the Black Knives, and observing The Greater Will with the ascension of Queen Marika. Nevertheless, nothing is definite yet.

More recently on February 28 to celebrate the 1st anniversary of the game, FromSoftware announced Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, the first official single player Elden Ring DLC with lots of additional content. The studio only released one teaser image and promotional image where we can see a blonde figure in the foreground looking at the Erdtree in the background.

When does Elden Ring DLC come out?

The only official Elden Ring DLC so far came out on December 7th 2022 in the form of a free DLC, the famous Colosseum update that is PvP mode. But there might be another one coming out soon.

The potential for Elden Ring DLC could take gamers to unexpected places. While there are some possible settings for the extension that are quite evident, there is one possibility that may not be so obvious and has exciting plot possibilities.

Even though it may not be obvious, players can access the game’s mysterious location by taking advantage of a unique magical power found in Elden Ring – one that is only used once.

Possibilities of future DLC in Elden Ring are plentiful due to the open-ended storytelling it encompasses. The enchanting reality of Miquella Godwyn is potentially a leading pick but sureness not limited to that, for areas beyond The Lands Between are plausible too, such as the Badlands or Land of Reeds.

With widespread enthusiasm for the game, multiple extensions that each give attention to one location look probable, despite no official declaration yet. Still another possibility is The Lands Between – the main game’s setting – that could be used as DLC territory but in an unexpected fashion from how many foresee.

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree will likely come out in November like it was the case for other games such as Bloodborne for example. Not too long to wait now for this official release.

Where and when could Elden Ring DLC take place?

One potential DLC for Elden Ring could provide gamers the chance to visit The Lands Between in ancient times. Already included in the game is a form of time travel which players can use to access the Dragonlord Placidusax boss battle. How this sorcery works and how far back it brings gamers to is still foggy, making it an effortless way for people to experience the same environment from a completely different point of view.

Adding more credence to this notion is FromSoftware’s listing of time-travel components in their preceding supplemental content, like Artorias of the Abyss in Dark Souls and the increasingly perplexing Ringed City from Dark Souls 3.

Broad ramifications could arise if Elden Ring’s future DLC was set in the past. Considering that The Lands Between is much older than it appears, a range of eras which could be visited should be available. A prominent time on Elden Ring’s timeline before the actual game would be the Shattering, which may involve the Tarnished being drawn into the dispute between demigods.

Nonetheless, this could imply having to fight a few of Elden Ring’s boss opponents once again, so FromSoftware might want to eschew this method as there already exists frequently re-used enemies in the game. A more absorbing option would be visiting the period leading up to The Shattering.

Elden Ring DLC before The Shattering

The possibility of having DLC for Elden Ring prior to The Shattering offers players the prospect of meeting some of the greatest and yet missing characters of the game. This may include Godwyn the Golden, the genuine type of Ranni and Queen Marika in particular.

It would be thrilling to view her as she displays her overwhelming strength and battling against the Higher Will. Frequently asked questions concerning her along with obscure facts in Elden Ring’s inexhaustible lore could maybe then get answered.

If any of these two potentials become the backdrop for Elden Ring’s DLC, FromSoftware will have the chance to develop their first time-travel device in the original Dark Souls. One can interact with a juvenile Great Grey Wolf Sif in the Artorias of the Abyss DLC, who is a boss from the primary game.

Completing this DLC before ever setting foot on the beast in the actual story grants you access to a new movie where Sif recognizes you. Since there were so many figures present before The Shattering that are part of this main game, this idea has boundless potential when it comes to Elden Ring.

How long before Elden Ring DLC, upcoming expansion, season pass or paid DLC comes out?

At this time, there is no confirmed release date for Elden Ring’s first paid DLC. The Colosseum non-paid PvP update (1.08) was published on 7th December 2022. Nailing down a release window for the Elden Ring paid DLC may be as hard as beating Malenia while playing with a Dance Pad…

Historical records show that FromSoftware usually takes less than a year to make substantial post-release content for their SoulsBorne games (Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls games, Bloodborne game) with the exception of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

As of now, we don’t have any confirmation about the release date for Elden Ring’s first DLC. Historically, FromSoftware titles’ expansion usually comes out within a year after the main game’s launch, so if that’s the case with Elden Ring, the expansion might come out before 25th February 2023.

Once information of an Elden Ring DLC/Expansion is released, we will provide you with the details and release date.

Rumors suggest Elden Ring’s initial downloadable content is called Barbarians of the Badlands. Said to be a major extension, Barbarians of the Badlands would take place beyond the Lands Between.

By paying attention to the game’s background, you would know that Tarnished was sent away to the Badlands after Godfrey lost his status.

In the prologue to Elden Ring, Tarnished returned to the area known as Lands Between. If the initial DLC for Elden Ring should be Barbarians of the Badlands, it’s likely to take place in the past.

Until FromSoftware or Bandai Namco provides official info, treat unconfirmed reports about Barbarians of the Badlands with skepticism.

Currently, there is only speculation regarding what Elden Ring’s DLC and expansions may contain. Speculation suggests it could potentially focus on Miquella, Melania’s brother who is reportedly “the most fearsome Empyrean of all.”

As speculated the initial DLC for Bandai Namco’s Elden Ring is centered around PvP, and take place in a large Colosseum situated in the Caelid area.

Even during Geoff Keighley’s The Game Awards 2022, the premiere gaming event, as we were patiently waiting for something, nothing happened. Even during Hidetaka Miyazaki’s acceptance speech not a single element was revealed about a potential Elden Ring DLC.

So there is no way to know, at the time of writing, when Elden Ring Story DLC will be out. We don’t have a remote release date window from either FromSoftware or Bandai Namco Entertainment. We don’t know if we will be able to use our current type character (Elden Lord or not) or if we have to build a character from scratch.

Also let’s not forget that FromSoftware next game, Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon is coming out in August so they might need a little more time to work on Elden Ring DLC.
