Valkyrie Profile is back in a sense with Valkyrie Elysium
During tonight’s PlayStation State of Play, Square Enix closed the march with two games: The DioField Chronicle and Valkyrie Elysium. If the former looks fun although it looks bad, the latter looks neither good nor fun. Which is a big problem to say the least.
As much as I am happy to see the Valkyrie Profile IP returning, I didn’t expect it to be in that way. Right now, the “action RPG with an epic story, beautiful environments, and new, fast-paced combat that incorporates the Valkyrie series’ classic special attack and combo systems.” touted by Square Enix looks very generic. We’re not far from Godfall or Babylon’s Fall, two of the biggest failures in recent years, the latter being from Square Enix already.
Why did they choose this route? A remake of the first one would have been great! Maybe I’m too harsh but I hope to see it more polished. Maybe I’ll change my mind. In the meantime, I’ll check the trailer more and more to see some if I missed some things. But I’m scared.
Valkyrie Elysium is set to be released on PS4 and PS5 in 2022.
